West Sussex
is a county located in the south of England,
approximately 50 miles from London.
The county has a total area of 769 square miles and an approximate population
of 800,000 people.
West Sussex is popular with walkers and cyclists. The Worth Way (East
Grinstead to Crawley Down) and the Forest
Way (East Grinstead
to Forest Row) are popular routes. Another popular outdoor attraction is Ashdown Forest, approximately 20 square miles of
open space which is popular for dog walking. The South Downs Way National Trail
passes through West Sussex.
West Sussex is home to popular National Trust attractions
including Nyman’s and Wakehurst
Place. Wakehurst
Place is the most visited National Trust property
in the UK
and is home to the Millenium Seed Bank.
West Sussex is also popular for its historical
attractions. Including East Grinstead, a
historical market town dating back to 1247. The town boasts many historical
buildings including a line of 14th century buildings in the High
Street and St Swithun’s Church. Near the entrance to the church, three stones
mark the ashes of Anne Tree, Thomas Dunngate and John Forman, who were burned
as martyrs on the 18th of July 1556 because they would not renounce the
Protestant faith.
